Kidnapped Zimbabwean Businessman Rescued: 14 Arrested, Including Mozambican and Chinese Nationals

The South African Police Service (SAPS) anti-kidnapping task team has arrested fourteen suspects, including three Chinese nationals and two Mozambicans, in Gauteng.

These arrests were made following the abduction of a Zimbabwean businessman near his workplace on Sunday.

By Monday afternoon, the collaborative efforts of the anti-kidnapping task team, which includes various SAPS units and private security partners, led to the safe recovery of the kidnapped victim.

The victim was found alive at a specific address in Diepkloof, Soweto.

The task team successfully tracked down the fourteen kidnappers at multiple locations.

Eight suspects were apprehended in an apartment in Greenstone Park, while the remaining six were arrested in Sandton.

Among the items seized from the kidnappers were multiple speed point machines, a substantial amount of cash withdrawn from the victim’s bank account, and two firearms, one of which had been stolen during a house robbery in Linden in 2023.

This operation is part of a broader effort by the SAPS to dismantle kidnapping syndicates targeting businessmen for ransom.

In recent weeks, the SAPS has successfully intercepted several kidnappers linked to such criminal networks.

SAPS urges communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods to help combat these crimes effectively.
