A 35-year-old illegal Zimbabwean national appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of murder, five counts of attempted murder, two counts of arson, and being in the country illegally.
According to reports, on 02 June 2024, the accused, along with an accomplice who remains at large, allegedly visited a tavern in Akasia and the homes of Moshate forum members and their relatives, where they opened fire. Subsequently, they set the tavern and a complainant’s house ablaze.
Tragically, a woman at the tavern lost her life after being shot, while five others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Following thorough investigations by the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspect was arrested on 10 June 2024. He has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The case has been postponed to 19 June 2024 for bail investigations and to provide the accused with legal representation.
